What is an Apprenticeship?
An apprenticeship enables anyone aged 16 and over to learn a profession by learning knowledge and skills in the classroom and gaining practical experience at work. Apprenticeships range from Accounting, Computing, Engineering to Service, Childcare and Sport.
Earn while you learn: Apprentices get the best of both worlds, studying and earning at the same time.
Get the qualifications you need: Apprenticeships are highly focused on developing and achieving the skills, experience and qualifications employers want.
Do a real job: Apprentices get paid holidays and other benefits such as pension contributions. They will work alongside full-time members of staff, so an apprentice gets a sense of what the job will be like once they have finished their training.
Practical experience: At the end of an apprenticeship, the trainee will not only be qualified to work in the trade but will also have an understanding of their role and their industry which you can’t read in a book.

Higher Apprenticeships
Anyone who has achieved 5 good GCSES (grades 9-5) and good post-16 results at Level 3 (A-levels, BTEC Nationals, Advanced Apprenticeship, and more) might be interested in looking into a Higher Apprenticeship as an alternative to university.
What is the difference between an apprenticeship and a high apprenticeship?
A Higher Apprenticeship is similar to other Apprenticeships; it gives the young person the chance to build up practical work experience while progressing academically up to a higher educational level, all whilst being paid a decent salary.
All Higher Apprenticeships offer existing apprentices, employees and school/college leavers a different route to traditional university study. Find out more here.
Degree apprenticeships combine full-time paid work and part-time university studies. You earn, you learn, you get a degree and have no student debt! Find out more about degree apprenticeships here.
